A morning with the high society

The Historic Film Society held a screening of the classic romantic musical, High Society.

The Historic Film Society recently set the mood for romance for audiences when they screened a romantic musical, High Society.

As with all their screenings, this one was held at The Ditsong National Museum of Military History. The musical is based on the classic film, The Philadelphia Story starring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and James Stewart.

The Academy Award-winning triumph was remade as a romantic musical, in 1956 with Cole Porter’s timeless melodies to reflect the ‘society’ wedding of the season. Historic Film Society co-founder, Selwyn Klass, said this film was almost a fairy tale realisation with Grace Kelly, in her last film before becoming Princess Grace of Monaco.

To say this film was an anticipated watch by those in attendance would be an understatement. For them, the screening could not have started sooner as they sat in the auditorium waiting for the lights to dim. In the audience was Dora Seeff, who celebrated her 100th birthday on the day. She was accompanied by her daughter, Joyce Levin, and they had a great time together.
