Inspirational Stories Shared at DSJ by Growing Champions

Connecting with others is important. Growing Champions visited DSJ school to connect with grade 8 pupils. They talked, laughed, and learned from each other.

Growing Champions spent a day at the German International School Johannesburg (DSJ) proving that bridges connect hearts before they connect cities. The organisation connected Grade 8 learners through the stories they shared and taught the learners other valuable life skills.

Thikedzo Mulaudzi one of the Growing Champions Seniors said that he thinks even from the title Stories We Share, it was about people sharing their own experiences in life and their upbringing, the things that they have gone through with other people so that they can essentially see the things they have in common.

A few weeks before Growing Champions held their outreach programme at DSJ, they organised a questionnaire for the Grade 8 pupils which helped them create a program that is not only engaging but will be beneficial to the learners.

Savo Caprnich the marketing and public relations for the Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg said the workshop was well organised and the presenters were liked. The learners learnt to see others in a more positive light, they learnt more about teamwork, that they are not alone and how to be kind to others, They also learnt how differences can be a good thing, they were able to make new friends.

Learners were also treated to fun activities and games that helped them feel more connected to each other by listening to their stories. One of the games that were played was called Common Ground where a sentence or statement would be read out loud and the children that best related to that statement would interact with it.
