Community members express their thoughts on the new NHI Bill.

In the wake of the President signing the NHI Bill into law, we asked community members what they felt about it.

Nikita Baijanth: I can’t wait; it’s delayed too long. Everyone can get basic medical care based on need, irrespective of your financial status. Medical aids and private health care are overpriced and mainly serving shareholders not ordinary patients and paying members.

Erick Moamoge: This is a good move as far as human rights are concerned but please let’s start by advancing our healthcare facilities such as local clinics providing services 24/7 with enough healthcare providers (personnel )as well as infrastructure development.

Vuyiseka Bambam: The initiative is great but we are in South Africa so it’s never going to be possible. I don’t think we will ever get to a point where private and public healthcare are the same, already public healthcare is failing so this won’t work.
