Caitlin Rooskrantz, a talented South African gymnast, is preparing to compete in her second Olympics, an achievement she considers a great honour and a childhood dream come true.
Reflecting on her journey, the 22-year-old acknowledges the challenges she has faced along the way, including the unexpected twists and turns that come with the sport of gymnastics.

Despite setbacks and unforeseen circumstances, Rooskrantz’s determination, discipline, and resilience have propelled her forward. She credits her success to years of hard work and unwavering focus on her dream.
“As I look ahead to the upcoming Olympics, my expectations are on improving my performances since Tokyo, without placing excessive pressure on myself. I recognise the progress that South African gymnastics has made, with two gymnasts qualifying for the 2020 Games and my qualification in 2024,” she said.
Competing among the world’s best gymnasts on the grandest stage fills Rooskrantz with excitement and a sense of accomplishment. “I cherish the opportunity to be among greatness and hope to inspire others, particularly those who, like me, may have once doubted my ability to reach such heights.”

She has encountered various challenges throughout her career, both physical and mental. “Gymnastics is a demanding sport, often accompanied by injuries and the need for mental strength. Despite these obstacles, I have persevered, never losing hope or faith.”
Representing South Africa in international competitions has had a profound impact on her approach to gymnastics. Each competition serves as an opportunity for growth and self-improvement.
The experience has instilled in her a deep sense of confidence and the knowledge that she belongs on the international stage. She acknowledges the significant support she has received from her club, Johannesburg Gymnastic Centre (JGC), her teammates, family, and friends.
Equally essential, she believes, is mental preparation, as the demands of competition require mental fortitude. She acknowledges that results may not always be immediate, but with perseverance, rewards will come. Rooskrantz draws inspiration from the belief that dreams are not placed in one’s heart without purpose.
As she embarks on her second Olympic journey, she aims to defy expectations and demonstrate the strength and skill of South African gymnastics.
