Acting head of the school Jade-Jia Laurent said this year marked the Year of the Snake, and festivities started early with the children being young eager chefs. They helped prepare some yummy Korean food, such as: dumplings, gimbap, and yachaejoen.
Thereafter, they put the finishing touches to their uniquely made snakes, which were all on display when they held a fun parade in the alleyway as traditional music played. The parade seemed to make the snakes joyously come to life – An experience the children really enjoyed.

There are many reasons why the school sees it important to introduce children to various cultures. For them, it is not only necessary, but essential. “We actually have quite a diverse community already, and we want all children’s cultures and traditions to be celebrated,” said Laurent, who shared that the idea to celebrate the day came from a parent who is part Korean.
Laurent emphasised the importance of exposing children to different traditions and beliefs, as its all so interesting and joyful to experience. She thinks such events leave a child with a new understanding of a different culture. “Children are so open, and so excited, and live in ongoing curiosity of the world.” At the end of the parade, the children gathered to take part in an activity common in all cultures, sharing food at a picnic.
