Orban School Gr 7’s learn leadership at Edu Camp Farm
Orban School took their Grade 7 leaders to Edu Camp Farm, to teach them to work together and grow as leaders.
Edu Camp Farm brought out the team work for Orban School’s Grade 7 leaders as they enjoyed leadership camp.

The group spent three days at the Olifantsfontein-based location, which offered an array of educational programmes for the learners to really get into. Grade 7 teacher Carla Venter said the camp teaches learners how to work as teams, outside of the school environment. “We have noticed that the activities and challenges they do at the camp are sometimes tackled differently than if they were at school.”
Leaders had a range of activities, such as: a music mania quiz, paper tower building, an obstacle course, a riddles quiz, building a tent using wooden poles and ropes, and a potjiekos challenge.

From the camp, Venter said the learners gain skills, such as: how to work as team, problem solve, listen to one another, and identify each others strengths and weaknesses. Although this group consists of varying personalities, they have figured out how to work together as a team, while making sure they all have tasks to fulfil that suit them. “They have always been a strong group, with solid values, but they also know how to have fun, and have a great sense of humour.”
As with many leaders though, there were some disagreements on how problems should be tackled. However, the group always found ways to try the various ideas, so as to figure out the best possible solution.
