Body found under bridge in botanical gardens after heavy rains

SAPS, JMPD, and security teams are on-site at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens after a grim discovery near Judith Road and Beyers Naudé Drive.

Security guards at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia reported finding a body in the stream at the corner of Judith Road and Beyers Naudé Drive, beneath a bridge, during their patrols.

The identity of the deceased remains unknown at this stage. Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) spokesperson Jenny Moodley confirmed that the South African Police Service (SAPS) is on-site, working alongside JMPD and security personnel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have not yet released further details as investigations continue. Meanwhile, officials have urged informal dwellers living alongside bodies of water to exercise extreme caution, especially following yesterdays [March 26] heavy rains. Flash flooding in these areas can rapidly overwhelm culverts and pose serious risks to those nearby.
