Teen dancer set to shine on global stage

From overcoming learning challenges to earning a spot on the world stage. Morgan Keys' story is nothing short of inspiring, with her current journey preparing to represent South Africa at the World of Dance competition in Spain.

Northcliff High School’s very own Morgan Keys, a 13-year-old hip-hop dancer, is set to represent South Africa at the prestigious World of Dance competition in Spain from July 1 to 12.

Morgan’s journey has been one of passion, perseverance, and dedication, with dance becoming more than just a hobby; it’s her escape and a way to express herself.

Keys, who faces challenges with dyslexia and learning difficulties, has found solace and confidence through dance. “When I dance, none of that matters. The music, the movement, it’s where I feel free and confident,” she said. Her hard work has paid off, as she now stands among the country’s top dancers, heading to the global stage.

Her achievements are not just about podium placements but also about the electric moments when the crowd chants her name, a feeling she cherishes deeply. “One of my biggest achievements is when the audience screams my name. It’s an amazing feeling knowing my hard work is being recognised.”

Guided by her coach, Mario Gomes from the Mario Gomes Hip Hop Dance Academy, she has grown tremendously as a performer. She credits Gomes for pushing her to new heights and helping her believe in herself. “He’s been a huge part of my journey. His support and guidance have played a big role in my success.”

Her love for dance goes beyond competition; she dreams of one day becoming a coach and choreographer to inspire younger dancers, just as her coach has inspired her.

She carries with her a message for future dancers: “Never give up. Even if you don’t win or place, you always have another shot. The most important thing is to keep practicing and improving; your time will come if you stay dedicated.”

Keys and her family are working hard to raise funds for her. If you would like to support her on this journey, you can donate via the BackaBuddy link: One Dream, One Stage: Send Morgan to World of Dance.
