Wits finds second-half brilliance as they sink Prestige Football Development Academy

The home side turned a goalless first half into a winning performance, with Chinedu Ogbodo and Udonna Ogbonna finding the net to secure the three points.

Wits University U17 football team produced an impressive second-half performance to secure a 2–1 victory over Prestige Football Development Academy in their Gauteng Development League fixture at Marks Park on August 22.

The two sides battled through a tightly contested opening 45 minutes, with neither able to find the breakthrough despite creating several promising opportunities. Wits looked the more threatening side before halftime, coming closest through Udonna Ogbonna, whose powerful effort struck the upright.

Prestige also had an excellent chance to open the scoring when Siyasanda Ngcem found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his effort was hit straight at the Wits shot-stopper.
With the match evenly poised at 0–0 after the interval, Wits emerged with purpose and intensity.

Their persistence paid off when they were awarded a penalty early in the second half. Chinedu Ogbodo calmly stepped up and converted from the spot to hand the home side a deserved lead.

Prestige fought back and reduced the deficit through a penalty converted by Bokang Paka, giving the visitors renewed hope. They pushed hard for an equaliser, with Siphelele Ngongela coming close, but his header drifted over the crossbar from a promising position.

Wits remained composed during the closing stages. The victory ensured the hosts collected all three points after turning a competitive, goalless first half into a disciplined and clinical second-half display.
