A glorious outreach comes to Sophiatown

The outreach saw community members in attendance receive a helping hand.

As a way to extend their assistance to the people of Sophiatown, Glory Divine World Ministries held an outreach at Sophiatown Extreme Park on April 12.
The event saw the church’s congregants donate clothes they collected and feed those in attendance hotdogs and hand out 150 loaves of bread.

Bishop Ryan Sooknunan said it was important for people to give back to communities. “How do we build our community unless we get involved? We need to take ownership of our communities, we can’t leave it to the government,” he said.

“We also need to mobilise communities and help them understand how the responsibility is in their hands as they do not want a failing community.”
Sooknunan highlighted various issues that contributed to a failing society, such as drugs and alcohol. “Communities need to have more mentorship organisations. Having worked with addicts, I know they are helpless in helping themselves. They want to be helped but are helpless.”

It is for such reasons that he emphasises communities taking the initiative to insight positive actions within their neighbourhoods.
