JW condemns attacks on staff and vandalism of infrastructure
JW strongly denounces attacks on employees and acts of vandalism which threaten service delivery and public health, urging communities to help protect vital infrastructure.

The entity emphasises that such actions not only threaten the safety of staff but also severely disrupt essential services to residents and customers of the City of Johannesburg.

JW expressed deep concern over the increasing number of incidents involving attacks on its officials while they are on duty. These include hijackings of official vehicles, robberies, threats, and intimidation, all of which endanger lives and hinder staff from performing their responsibilities effectively. Such acts compromise service delivery and pose a serious risk to public health and safety.
One particularly alarming incident involved community protesters in Lenasia South setting alight a JW jetting truck used for unblocking sewer lines and preventing spillages, which are critical for maintaining a clean and healthy environment. During the attack, officials’ personal belongings, including cellular phones and wallets, were also stolen. These jetting trucks are vital assets that ensure the sanitation and well-being of the community.

JW condemns these criminal acts unequivocally, emphasising that they are illegal and punishable by law. The organisation states that it will not hesitate to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to take appropriate action against those responsible. Such disruptions not only jeopardise the safety of staff but also significantly delay essential services, which can have serious consequences for public health.
The utility calls on communities to understand the importance of safeguarding the city’s assets and infrastructure. The preservation of these resources is crucial for maintaining the quality of life for residents. JW urges residents to actively participate in the campaign to protect public property by reporting any illegal or criminal activities that threaten the safety of employees and the integrity of infrastructure.
Together, the organisation emphasises that safeguarding infrastructure and staff is a collective responsibility. Everyone is encouraged to play their part in ensuring that Johannesburg’s essential services continue uninterrupted and that the safety of all employees and residents is prioritised.
