Major Rand Water maintenance to impact Johannesburg Water supply
From June 30 to July 21, Rand Water will undertake essential infrastructure maintenance, which may cause water pressure issues or outages in parts of Johannesburg.
Rand Water (RW) will carry out significant maintenance work on its infrastructure from June 30 to July 21, which will affect Johannesburg Water’s (JW) systems and potentially lead to poor water pressure or no water supply in certain areas. During this period, JW will implement alternative water supply arrangements at strategic points within affected residential zones to help mitigate disruptions.

The maintenance includes pipe leak repairs at RW’s Zuikerbosch plant and cleaning of sedimentation tanks at RW Vereeniging. The Eikenhof system, which supplies several JW systems such as Commando (Hursthill and Brixton), Lenasia, and Randburg/Roodepoort, will experience disruptions starting at 05:00 on June 30. Initial pipe leak repairs will cause no pumping for 6 hours, after which pumping will resume at 50% capacity for 42 hours, gradually increasing to 80% for the remaining 19 days. The full recovery period after each maintenance phase can take up to 14 days.
