Little Explorers tell a fur-tune tale of happiness

Do you know what Little Explorers Pre-Primary School does with all the love they have for animals? They host a pet food drive for the animals of Woodrock Animal Rescue, of course.

Sally De Abreu, the school’s founder, said that after explaining to the children that the animals at this non-profit live on a farm and often don’t have enough food, the learners were more than willing to turn their love into an act of service. Adding to the day’s excitement were Milo and Hot-Chocolate, two adorable Dachshund puppies. “They were so kind and loving to the puppies,” she said.

De Abreu believes it’s important to nurture an appreciation for animals from a young age. “It helps even with their emotional side – to be kind and gentle with animals and not to hurt them, and it also helps them with their own emotions too,” she explained. She was confident the children left that day eager to tell their parents about the two delightful puppies from the De Abreu household they got to spend time with.

Each of the 35 learners donated pet food to the animal rescue. “Everybody either brought a tin of food, or biscuits, or one or two bags of food. So they were actually very generous,” she said, adding that it was impressive considering how young they are.

De Abreu encouraged others to support animal rescue organisations, saying donations go to sentient beings who need love too.
