Resident says Hofmeyer Drive erosion problem is now critical

An Emmarentia resident warns that the Hofmeyer Drive now poses a serious risk to motorists.

Emmarentia resident Mike Browne says the embankment along Hofmeyer Drive, which has been eroding for years, now appears to be reaching a critical stage.

He warned that the conditions pose a risk because the road carries heavy traffic, including cars, trucks, and buses. He added that the danger is increased because the erosion is close to a bend in the road, meaning drivers often do not realise how close they are to the edge.

“Many people who regularly use that road have told me that they were unaware of the really dangerous conditions.”

Browne suggests that Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) should at least put up a barrier, and possibly ban heavy vehicles.

The publication has sent JRA a query, and will follow up on what will be done on this issue.
