Ward 88 residents association looks forward to continued success in 2023
Neil Ferguson praised local security companies and NGOs for working hard to assist the communities they serve.
Ward 88 has an active residents association which works hard to ensure their communities continue to enjoy living in the leafy suburbs with low crime and active representatives.
Chair of the group association Neil Ferguson said, “2022 was a mixed bag for Ward 88. There have been intermittent problems with reliable electricity, water supply and billing issues. Besides the ongoing struggles with load-shedding there have been some improvements in the area. Water infrastructure was upgraded in Northcliff Ext 12, and new LED streetlights are being installed across the ward which were positive developments.”
He also praised how local NPO, Let’s Work, which relies on donations from residents, had continued to help keep the ward clean and has even started filling in potholes. “Residents are very charitable and always willing to help with time and donations.”
Ferguson commented on how private security companies and community volunteers were all closely engaged with residents and go far beyond their mandates to assist those in their time of need.
“Our councillor Nicolene Jonker thankfully has been more proactive and in touch with residents than our previous representative. Residents have also faced political uncertainty in the council, due to political manoeuvring, at times affecting efficient operations of City management.”
The next priority for the association is to help the City secure substations and mini-substations in the area, as they are vulnerable to theft and vandalism.
