Learner hopes schools will introduce soccer as a sport

She says playing as part of a team builds morale, is healthy, and provides a space to be around teammates that become like family.

Caeleigh Niken talks about her love of soccer and the many benefits of playing the sport.

She writes:

Soccer is so important to me, especially because my dad is a coach. He has played all his life.

I don’t play it as much as I’d like but the soccer community is really fun and they build you up – they don’t put you down.

Being part of a team that becomes like family and is always encouraging you is so awesome.

I used to play in Randburg and hope to start again soon. I think it would be a positive sport for the schools to offer and I’m not sure why they don’t.

A lot of children are interested in the premier league teams and other competitions. I think the support for it would be huge.

Soccer is also beneficial for all sorts of reasons. It keeps you physically healthy, boosts morale and creates energy from all the running you need to do. It’s also just a lot of fun.

I also think soccer for girls is great. It is not as popular as it should be but I hope that will change. There is now even golf soccer where you kick a ball on a golf course and the goals are holes in the ground.
