Have you seen beautiful Yuki? She is missing
The striking Bengal cat belongs to a bereft family in Northcliff who is desperate to find her and holds out hope despite K9 units not locating her.
Having a pet go missing is traumatic and stressful when it is a beloved member of the family.
Yuki, a beautiful two-year-old female Bengal cat, belongs to the Faieka family in Northcliff.
She has been missing for a few weeks now and her owners are calling on their community to try and locate her.
“We have had her since she was just a few weeks old and we are so worried about her,” says Lagardien.
Yuki is not like most cats; she has travelled far and wide in her harness with the family as they enjoyed the city. “Only after we had had her for a year did we feel ready to let her out on her own in the garden to play with her best friend, our neighbour’s cat. She always ran home when called or used an open window to let herself back into the house.”
Lagardien says the addition of her new baby girl completed the family with Yuki making sure her ‘little sister’ was all right by alerting us if she cried. They adore each other.”
Last month, Juki did not come home though.
The family searched high and low for her, leaving her favourite toys and blankets at the gates of the complex and in the garden hoping to entice her back. “We printed old-fashioned missing posters, and used social media extensively but nothing; we are absolutely devastated.”
After four days, Healthy Hound Missing Pet Search and Rescue was contacted.
They make use of specially trained K9 dog units to search for missing pets of all kinds. They are the only ‘pet detectives’ on the continent and have a high success rate with over 80% of cases succeeding in reuniting animals with their owners.
Diane Logie, their missing animal responder, joined the search for Yuki, but despite her and the dogs’ best efforts, she has not been located.
“We got Yuki’s scent off a blanket and some toys that we scented the dogs with.”
The initial search was of the complex and neighbouring veld and green belt, but only a faint indication was found.
“Some nearby homes were also indicated as being of interest by the dogs, but nothing came from that. We have searched with different dogs on several occasions but without any luck.”
Logie believes Yuki is in the area, perhaps the green belt or is in someone’s house.
“We join the family in appealing for the community to report any potential sightings of Yuki to her family who is desperate to have her back home with them.”
