Where to spend Christmas if you’re alone

If you're alone this Christmas, don't just sit, blue, in your house. Try one of these ideas to get out and spread the joy, and feel it yourself.

Christmas Day for many people is the day which brings families and friends together to have quality time and reflect on the year but it can be a difficult time if you do not have anyone to spend it with.

Here are some ideas for what you can do which will no doubt bring you joy, but those you meet too.

Visit an old age home

Johannesburg has many old-age homes with dozens of senior citizens who are craving for a special visit from someone who can bring a smile to their faces. Check with a local old age home if they are open to visitors during the festive season.

 Visit a local church

Many churches have short sermons on Christmas Day in which members of the church and community are usually welcome to participate. If you are alone, why not celebrate with your local community?

Visit a children’s home

Many children may not have the opportunity to spend the festive season with loved ones. Check with a local children’s home to find out if they are open to visitors during the festive season.

Food kitchen

Many soup and food kitchens cater for the poor across the city. They are also generally always looking for volunteers and are a lot of fun to help.
