Looking back on a productive year for Let’s Work

As 2024 comes to a close, Let's Work reflects on a year filled with challenges, growth, incredible community spirit, and celebrating achievements that have made a lasting impact.

As Let’s Work bids farewell to 2024, it is hard not to look back at all they have accomplished, the challenges they faced, and the amazing spirit of community that has driven them forward. 2024 has been a year of unity, hard work, and incredible community spirit – one that they will always cherish.

This year has been filled with milestones that the team will always hold dear and they are so proud of everything they have accomplished, together with the support from the community.

Founder of Let’s Work Felicity Lawlor stated that 2024 has been a year of growth and progress for them. “With the generous donations from the community, we were able to purchase another set of wheels, enabling us to reach more people and increase our capacity to serve. This addition has been a game-changer, allowing us to expand our reach and make an even greater impact.”

While they celebrated many successes, this year also saw some bittersweet goodbyes for the team. “We said farewell to several team members who found more sustainable work opportunities or chose to return to their families in other provinces. Though we will miss them, we wish them all the best in their new endeavors and thank them for their contributions to Let’s Work,” said Lawlor.

Mandela Day 2024 was an outstanding success, and we are beyond proud of what we achieved, as the Let’s Work team, remarked Lawlor. We had a record number of bread loaves donated – an amount greater than anything we’ve seen in previous years. But what really stood out was the number of sandwiches we were able to make and distribute.

Supporting a resident in crisis: A heartfelt moment

Lawlor mentioned one of the most poignant moments of the year was when they came together to help a resident in Roosevelt Park, whose home was tragically destroyed in a fire, with support of donations. It was a reminder of the strength and compassion within the community.

The team were also fortunate for receiving donations to further strengthen their efforts in beautifying the community. “This year, we were also fortunate to receive a generous donation of rain coats, which has been a game-changer for our team. With the unpredictable weather, these rain coats have allowed us to continue working – even when the skies open up.”

As they reflect on the work the team has done throughout the year, they are proud to see the progress they have made in the parks and green spaces. “When we started, the task ahead seemed daunting. But thanks to the dedication of our team, volunteers, and partners, we have successfully tackled the problem of alien invasive trees, and litter, making our green spaces healthier and safer for everyone to enjoy,” asserted Lawlor

She concluded that the transformation is clear. “We have created cleaner, more inviting environments for families, friends, and nature lovers to gather. The work we’ve done this year has made a lasting difference, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the collaborative spirit that defines our community.”
