Northcliff High squash players route to the T

When Noah Herman started playing squash three years ago, after being encouraged by a friend, he had no idea that he would grow to love it as much as he does.

Three years ago, when Northcliff High student Noah Herman made his way to the T on the squash court, he did so with the eagerness to take part in a sport he knew little about, after being encouraged by a friend to join in on the fun.

All these years later, the sport has helped him gain strength, adding to his overall mental health to help him think more clearly. He does admit that, at first, the sport was intimidating, as he found himself playing against people much stronger, older, and ‘better’ than him. “But these were players who helped me get past my fears, and supported me through it all, so, I started to be good,” he explained.

When this Northcliff Squash player isn’t making the perfect serve, you will find him on the field playing rugby. He also used to play tennis when he was younger.

When he has to contend with a stronger player, he doesn’t step onto the court with thoughts that he will lose. Instead, he thinks of it as another opportunity to give the match his best. “I always get in with the mindset that I can only get better from this, and learn something new from my opponent.”
