Linden Life Saving Club splashes to encourage safety
The club hosted a spring fun day that had community members of all ages take part in water safety activities.
Community members enjoyed a day filled with water activities when Linden Life Saving Club hosted a spring fun day on August 30 at Linden Swimming Pool.
Club member Doug Herbert elaborated that the day was to promote water safety and awareness. “We’re trying to get the kids involved with water safety and drowning prevention.”
Based on the extremely high statistics of drownings in the country, such an event was important for them to host. “We want to make children, from as young as possible, aware of the dangers of water, and how to save themselves, as well as friends.” Participants were as young as six years old.

He reasoned these statistics are probably as high as they are because many communities don’t have access to formal facilities, like those the Linden Swimming Pool offers. He said he feels people are not fully aware of all the dangers around water, adding that a toddler can drown in just a bucket of water.

So, to help ward against such incidents, the day was packed full of water activities, including self and friend rescues, as well as an introduction to CPR.
Herbert said the club’s aim, most importantly, is to have everyone, especially children, safe around the water.
