Beagle Watch installs barriers to enhance road safety
After a Montgomery Park resident raised safety issues, the team stepped in to block unsafe vehicle access on Beyers Naudé Drive.
In response to safety concerns raised by a Montgomery Park resident, the Beagle Watch environmental team has taken proactive measures to secure a vulnerable section of Beyers Naudé Drive, near Westpark Cemetery, on August 27.
The team installed traffic barrier poles to prevent vehicles from using an open piece of ground as an unofficial entrance, a practice that posed significant risks to road users.
Andre Aiton, Managing Director of Beagle Watch, explained the motivation behind the initiative. “We put up poles, stopping traffic using an open piece of ground to enter Beyers Naudé Drive, as it was a risk to road users.” The installation aims to reduce the likelihood of accidents, thereby lowering the risk of injuries and fatalities in the area.

Aiton further emphasised the broader vision of Beagle Watch. “As we see the need, we will evaluate if we can help.” This suggests that similar safety interventions may be considered in other areas where the team identifies potential hazards.

The recent installation at Montgomery Park is part of Beagle Watch’s ongoing commitment to community safety and environmental stewardship.
By addressing this specific traffic concern, the team hopes to contribute to safer roads and a more secure environment for all residents and commuters in the vicinity of Westpark Cemetery.
