3 dead in Westpark crash

After speeding on West Park Road and John Adamson Drive, SCP warns of the state of Johannesburg roads as they become more and more dangerous to drive on.

Three people were killed on Westpark Road this afternoon in a high-speed crash involving a silver Mercedes-Benz, marking the second serious accident on the same road in just one week.

The vehicle was carrying three occupants, all of whom were declared dead on the scene. The accident happened at 13:05, with SCP Security arriving by 13:12. According to Director of SCP Security Clive Maher, the car was so badly damaged that it took emergency responders around 45 minutes to cut it open and retrieve the bodies.

“This is something that unfortunately has been a long time coming, and now people are dying,” said Maher. “Three people killed today, five injured last week — all because of speed.”
Last week, five individuals were flung off a bakkie in another crash on the same stretch. Maher says reckless driving on the road has become the norm, not the exception.

“Cars and motorcycles speed here like it’s a racetrack. We’re tired of cleaning up people’s bodies. We’re tired of cleaning up people’s messes.”JMPD, SCP Security, and a private fire and rescue team worked together on scene to retrieve the victims.
Maher pointed that there is a lack of speed reducing measures as a long-standing issue, and added that the roads has become too dangerous to ignore.
