The 2026 Tshepo Community Development Initiative hopes for

The development initiative hopes to see more assistance from donors and corporates, and to reintegrate more homeless people back into society.

Providing structured, holistic support to individuals experiencing homelessness – offering access to basic needs such as food, clothing, and showers – is the Tshepo Community Development Initiative (CDI), which operates the first U-turn Homeless Service Centre in Gauteng.

They also empower people, through skills development and voucher earning, therapy, work readiness, and pathways to independence. Their goal is not only relief; it is long-term restoration and reintegration into society.

As an organisation they have input in all stages of life. They operate an aftercare centre in Windsor East – with the co-ordination of Fellowship through Fitness – called Lesedi Aftercare, a youth group, called the Bonfire group, and a senior citizen support group – aiming to support poverty in all stages of life.

Wish for 2026:
That every person who walks through their doors experiences hope, as in the meaning of their name – not just for a day, but for a lifetime.

What they hope to achieve in 2026:
To expand their relationships with their funders and potential donors, strengthen their aftercare support for those reintegrating into society, this is always encouraging to staff and clients, and increase community awareness around sustainable responses to homelessness and poverty as a whole.

What help they require most:
Regular monthly donors and corporate partners who can help sustain their core services. They also need volunteers with professional skills – from social work to finance, IT, and gardening – who can contribute their time and expertise.

Homelessness is not a life sentence; it’s a situation that can be changed when communities come together with understanding and compassion.

Tshepo CDI, sees this transformation happen every day… One person, one story, one act of kindness at a time.
