Melville’s 7th Street set to come alive for The Happening

From live performances to community spirit, The Happening promises a day of colour, creativity and connection.

Melville is set to come alive this weekend as 7th Street transforms into a vibrant celebration of art, music and community spirit.

Taking place on March 28, The Happening will turn parts of 7th Street and 4th Avenue into a pedestrian-friendly festival space, inviting residents and visitors to experience the suburb at its most colourful and energetic.

With no entry fee, the event promises a full day of entertainment from live art and stand-up comedy to music and performance – all driven by volunteers and local creatives.

In the lead-up to the event, members of the Melville Business Association and residents rolled up their sleeves to help the event’s organisers prepare the streets.

Community clean-ups held on March 21 and 26 saw volunteers come together to not only tidy the area, but also add a creative touch by painting pillars – setting the tone for what’s to come.

“This is really about community,” said Cobi Meyer-Domingos. “It’s a day where people come together to create something special – artists, performers and residents all contributing their time.”

Melville has long been known for its street culture and creative energy, and The Happening builds on that legacy. “It’s like a reminder of how vibrant and active Melville is – the best of what this community has to offer,” she said.

Beyond the festivities, the event also plays an important role in supporting local businesses and reshaping perceptions of the area. Organisers hope it will draw people back into Melville, encouraging them to explore, connect and experience the neighbourhood in a new light.

With streets closed, creativity on full display and a strong sense of togetherness, residents are encouraged to step out, join in and be part of something uniquely Melville.
