Fantastic Fitness Club builds community and health in Brixton

From early-morning workouts to lasting friendships, members of Dennis Dlomo’s Fantastic Fitness Club are discovering that consistency delivers more than physical results.

Dennis Dlomo’s Fantastic Fitness Club offers outdoor group training sessions in Brixton, bringing together residents of different fitness levels to work towards healthier lifestyles.

The classes combine exercise, motivation and consistency, with Dlomo providing personal encouragement in a group setting. Beyond the physical workouts, the club fosters a strong sense of community, where members hold one another accountable, celebrate progress and support each other on their fitness journeys.

Brixton resident Alex Spoor stumbled across Dlomo’s fitness club training in a local park on a Saturday morning almost five years ago. Dlomo’s approach to training makes even a large group feel like a personal training session, Spoor says.

One of Dlomo’s favourite sayings is that ‘Summer bodies are made in winter’ – a reminder that fitness requires commitment throughout the year, rather than a last-minute push when summer approaches. For Spoor, the appeal goes beyond the physical workout, as the club has grown into a community where members encourage one another and notice when someone fails to show up. That sense of accountability helps members remain consistent, while the outdoor setting offers the added benefit of exercising in fresh morning air.

Spoor said he has noticed significant changes in his physique since joining, with Dlomo using photographs taken over the years to remind members of how far they have progressed. Looking back at photographs from three or four years ago, Spoor said he could see how much his body had changed, crediting Dlomo’s motivation and the satisfaction of building a stronger physique. Even when he lacks motivation, Spoor tries to maintain his routine.

Fellow member Lasola Nene discovered the club through videos on TikTok. Living in the area and knowing people who already attended the sessions, Nene became interested and joined. For Nene, the club’s biggest attraction is the bond among its members.

The benefits have extended beyond physical fitness, with Nene noticing changes in her body and improvements in her mental well-being, describing feeling fresher and better able to think clearly. Dlomo plays an important role in keeping members motivated and encouraging them to remain committed to their fitness goals.

Through regular training, personal encouragement and a shared sense of responsibility, Fantastic Fitness Club has created an environment where members support one another in pursuing healthier lifestyles.

For Spoor and Nene, the results are measured not only in physical transformation but also in improved well-being, lasting friendships and the discipline to keep showing up.
