I am Merrilyn Bayne and I live in Northcliff, half way up the hill.
When the lights are on I am happy and life is good and fairly peaceful in the suburbs surrounding me.
But when we get an electrical outage the place sounds like a war zone.
Generators in many houses whirr, grind and scream from every direction.
Last night I did not get a wink of sleep.
My head swam in noise.
Some generators have been grinding away for over 24 hours and as we still have an outage they will continue to have control of the sound waves…we can’t even hear the hadedas… and this persistent sound wears away my patience and works on the nerves of many others.
People are meant to place their generators in a sound-proof box as the law stipulates.
The generators at the shops do not make such an awful noise as the shops comply with rules.
And why do the generator owners use generators non-stop?
It seems as if people have no thought for others as they happily turn on their generators and think: I HAVE POWER!
Well that power screams through the air into other people’s space and intrudes into their happiness.
I ask all who read this to sound proof your generators and inform others that they need to sound proof theirs.
I also ask: WHO CHECKS THE CORRECT INSTALMENT OF GENERATORS.
