UJ goes unbeaten

Aucklandpark - Newcomers UJ made a huge impact on 18 August by beating UCT 6 - 0 at Soweto Sports Complex.

University of Johannesburg (UJ) turned up the heat at the Soweto Sports complex thrashing University of Cape Town (UCT) 6 – 0 on 18 August.

UJ managed to advance to the top of the Varsity Football standings after their spectacular win. The home side pulled out all the stops in front of their loud, chanting fans.

So far, UJ – coached by former Bafana Bafana player Bradley Carnell – has yet to lose a game.

Before half-time, striker Pontsho Nyathi got hold of the ball and sailed in the box, scoring a spectacular goal, the home side again thrilled their supporters by finding the back of the net making it 2 – 0

The second half was no different from the first half. UJ kept exciting their fans by putting pressure on the visitors in search of their third goal – UCT tried their level best to defend themselves but couldn’t outsmart the home team.

Ruben de Freitas strengthened the position from the right wing and scored a mighty goal adding to UCT’s embarrassment. As if that was not enough, Sandro Claro came out of nowhere to score the home team’s fourth goal. The home team was now sailing through the soccer field, with the replacement striker Lumkile Dava making his own mark by breaking the visitors defence team and scoring the fifth goal – Matthew Edwards put the last nail in the coffin by hammering UCT with a header making it 6 – 0.
