UJ give Wits a soccer lesson in their Varsity Football derby match
JOBURG – The crown belongs to UJ, for now.
Wits University and the University of Johannesburg (UJ) continued their rivalry as they faced off in their crucial Varsity Football clash on 9 August, which UJ won 2–1.
The boys in orange took the lead with a suburb goal from Karl Clements in the 25th minute.
Wits replied within four minutes from a wicked deflection from a set-piece to level the match.
Wits’ Tshireletso Motsogi’s freekick hit a player in the wall, leaving the keeper with no chance to stop the ball.
After a highly entertaining and nail-biting second half, UJ asserted their dominance and were rewarded with a game-winning goal from Mokete Mogaila in the 81st minute.
HALF TIME and the Joburg derby is all tied up from two set pieces. Here's the first goal by Karl Clements from @UJ_Sport. Wind definitely playing a factor and the @Witsfc goalie got a hand to it, but couldn't stop it from finding the net.

And here's the @Witsfc reply by Tshireletso Motsogi that takes a wicked deflection from a player in the wall leaving the goalie no chance. All square at the break.

Mogaila was named Man of the Match and awarded the Moment of Brilliance prize for his efforts to grab the three points for UJ.
The victory for UJ places them second on the log with seven points while Wits drop to fourth on six points.
UJ will face the University of KwaZulu-Natal next on 16 August while Wits will try to get back to winning ways against the University of Pretoria on the same night.
The tournament has reached its halfway stage and both teams will need to ensure that their remaining games are successful if they plan to compete in the next round.
