Dabulamanzi Canoe Club hosts another spectacular Four-Hour Enduro

EMMARENTIA – The annual Four-Hour Enduro sees over 100 canoeists paddle around Emmarentia Dam as many times as they can in four hours.

It was another splashing day at the dam with Dabulamanzi Canoe Club’s annual Four-Hour Enduro.

The sun was fierce, the wind mild and the atmosphere electric on the morning of 23 November as over 100 canoeists paddled around Emmarentia Dam as many times as they could between 8am and noon.

The event, which has been held for over 20 years and was initially eight hours long, allowed teams to range between one and four people.

Most teams however, consisted of four paddlers who competed in relay in two canoes. Families, friends and paddlers taking breaks lined the banks of the dam, resting in the shade, enjoying snacks at the café and cheering on the canoeists on the wavy waters.

Children had their own two-hour event on the morning and this was bigger than ever, with 30 youngsters competing in 10 teams.

“We had a problem with the timing system on our new Apple device and we lost the times but correctly recorded the winning canoeists, who did not mind much,” said club chairperson, Graham Neate.

“It was nice to see the dam busy and people using the water. The juniors were more involved than ever before.”

He added that next year the enduro will be bigger and better, and he promised no problems with the time keeping.
