New assistant instructors help teach at the Him Soo Do Association
JOBURG – Three people of different backgrounds become new assistant instructors at Him Soo Do Association.
There are new assistant instructors teaching him soo do at dojangs in Roosevelt Park, Benmore Gardens, Lyndhurst, Ferndale and at Waterford Estate in Fourways.
These dojangs under the Him Soo Do Association www.himsoodo.com went online during the lockdown so that practitioners could still ‘meet’ in online videos and train together. Chief instructor for the association, Shane Comley-White welcomed three new assistant instructors recently. These instructors have senior belts and attended training sessions through an online video conferencing system.
There, they completed theory sessions and prepared for online physical training classes they would help teach. “The hours put in and the knowledge learned is taking them forward to being able to complete their full instructors qualifications by mid 2021,” explained Comley-White.
“Even the lockdown won’t stop their hard work and dedication.”
About the assistant instructors:
Gareth Boyd
Boyd is currently preparing for a black belt in-training level. He joined Him Soo Do Association in 2018 and has been a dedicated student, always willing to go the extra-mile when it comes to being extra fit and someone the other students admire due to his fitness level and discipline.

Lamees Marquard
Marquard recently celebrated her 20th birthday and has been training with Him Soo Do Association for two years. She has excelled in her achievements and has even skipped some earlier levels due to her determination, willingness to work hard and her skill level. She is someone who inspires others and is always positive, friendly and willing to help.
Craig du Plooy
Du Plooy came from a different martial art a year and a half ago, where he had a black belt already. He had to motivate why he wanted to join and discuss his future plans with Him Soo Do Association. With the martial art’s overseas authorities’ approval, he was able to be prequalified at a senior belt level. He was required to relearn the different techniques and forms, and due to his efforts and hard work he was accepted as one of the new assistant instructors.

“All three of them are a valued asset to the him soo do instructor levels and will be put through their paces with exams, gradings, and also assisting with our online training session as part of their community hours,” the chief instructor continued.
“I personally, along with the Him Soo Do Association, look forward to their progress and their bright future, not only as senior belts but a valued team of instructors. They are part of the future growth of him soo do here in South Africa. I am proud to have them as my students and even more proud to have them as my fellow instructors.”
