Middle-class marriage turns to neuroses
ROOSEVELT PARK- Franklin Players Community Theatre’s play to cajole your interest in plays.

ROOSEVELT PARK – Directed by Suresh Nampuri and Tamara Allkins, Bedroom Farce is serving as the curtain raiser for the mid-year plays at Franklin Players Community Theatre.
A raucously ridiculous comedy that is suitable for all age groups, Bedroom Farce is a hilarious take on the neuroses of middle-class marriage written by one of Britain’s greatest masters of absurdity, Alan Ayckbourn.
“We set the hall up like a Barnyard setup with tables and chairs and we have an events expert on the committee that makes sure the decor is setup accordingly. Guests can look forward to an entertaining evening with friends,” says Allkins.
In 1962, Harry Falkov and Iris Schuck established the drama group, Franklin Players, at the Roosevelt Park Recreation Centre and has been entertaining the community ever since.
Franklin Players is also a founder member of the South African National Community Theatre Association (Sancta).
“We all do these plays for fun, it is a great group of people from all walks of life that are interested in the arts and this is an outlet for everyone to take part in. There is no monetary compensation and we all do it voluntarily,” says Allkins.
For this play, the charity being supported is Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) who will receive 10 percent of the proceeds. The remainder of the money covers expenses to put the show on and continued budget for future productions.
The shows will take place on 25 and 26 July and then on 1 and 2 August at 7.30pm for two hours.
Tickets are at R70 for adults and for pensioners and scholars it will be R40 per night.
“There is secure parking available and a security guard on patrol. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and drink, but there will be a tuck shop selling hot meals, cold drinks and sweets,”concludes Allkins.
Tickets will also be on sale at the door.
