Wits students wow Grahamstown
BRAAMFONTEIN — Local production company combines students and professionals at the 2015 Arts festival.
Dancers from Wits University have selected and mentored to create a dance fusion for the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
Under the direction of Mwenya Kabwe, the students will perform a piece titled, Pilcrow presented by Liquid Fusion Production. Pilcrow explores the boundaries between spoken language and movement as it follows an established writer’s struggle to effectively deal with grief.
CEO of the Arts and Culture Trust (ACT) Pieter Jacobs said the production embodied true artistic empowerment.
“Pilcrow embodies ACT’s vision of nurturing creative industry skills to create job opportunities and promote sustainability in the arts, from the grassroots right up to the professional level.”
Megan Gottscho, who is part of the Pilcrow cast is a third year performing an visual arts student at Wits and will be going to the National Arts Festival for the second time.
ACT together with The Nedbank Arts Affinity have joined together to support the pupil’s performances in Grahamstown.
