VIDEO: Coldest beer in the world

GREENSIDE - Castle Light tests a revolutionary beer tap to keep beer cold for longer.

Does your beer get warm too quickly? There may be an answer to this problem.

Castle Light has installed their brand new two-spout solution, Crystal Cold, at The Artisan in Greenside. “It’s the first Crystal Cold tap to be installed anywhere in the world,” explains Jon Scholtz, owner of the restaurant. “There are currently only two in South Africa.”

The tap is in a test period at the moment. If the test is successful, all Castle Light taps will soon be replaced with the Crystal Cold tap. “An average beer stays cold for about seven minutes,” says Scholtz, “but the new tap is supposed to keep it cold for 12.”

The tap works by dispensing the beer through one tap, and then what Scholtz calls a “beer slush” through the other. This slush contains crystals that supposedly work to keep the beer cold for an extra five minutes.

Castle Light is scheduled to launch the product across the country on 21 August if the test taps prove to be successful.
