Mentalist takes audience on island adventure
CRESTA – One Man, One Island impresses audience at Cresta.
Mentalist Michael Abrahamson debuted his One Man, One Island performance at the Barnyard Theatre Cresta on 23 August.
The venue was full and there was a sense of excitement in the theatre. However, for the first quarter of the show Abrahamson had to work hard to get the audience to warm up. By the time intermission came round, the crowd had a better understanding of what he was doing and they started to engage a lot more. By the second half the audience was enraptured.
While the show was very good and the Barnyard provided a cosy setting, the only thing that could have improved it would have been a big-screen feature so the audience members from the middle to the back of the venue could see the finer details of the show, such as Abrahamson pulling the correct card from a deck.
Intermittent entertainment was provided by female a cappella trio Choral Pleasure, put together specifically for the show, and who harmonised brilliantly. They kept their music selection island-themed in accordance with the show and the highlight of their performance was Island in the Sun,which would have earned the nod of approval from Harry Belafonte.
Abrahamson made sure to interact with audience members of a variety of ages from around the venue, asking them up onto the stage to assist with varying aspects of the performance. The finale of the show had the audience gasping in disbelief and applauding enthusiastically.
