Actress’ dreams come true in Los Angeles
AUCKLAND PARK – Local actress aims to be successful in her career after graduating at the New York Film Academy.
Pursuing an acting career on an international level is something most actors and actresses dream about achieving one day in their careers.
Magna Howard received a scholarship to study at the New York Film Academy in 2013 and attended the Los Angeles Campus where she graduated last year with an acting for film qualification. She was recently selected to represent South Africa and perform at the International Arts Convention taking place in Florida in July next year.
Howard is now home to visit her family in Auckland Park for the holidays. Her journey as an actress began when she was signed with an agency where she attended acting classes under the guidance and supervision of Just Model and Artist Management. Her commitment to her acting grew in 2012.
International talent scout Kim Meyers from Florida attended a talent showcase in South Africa, where actors, models, dancers and singers have the opportunity to showcase their talents and then attend the International Arts Convention in the United States of America. Howard had a very successful run and received five awards for her participation in the showcase.
“Since being scouted and given the opportunity to travel abroad, it has definitely opened her mind up to cultures and how to adapt to changing environments,” Meyers said.
Howard would like to work with Viola Davis, and looks up to Denzel Washington who has always been a favourite of hers. So far, her greatest opportunity is working on Felix Gary Gray’s movie, Straight Outta Compton , and who directed movies like Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerald Butler.
Her advice to anyone wanting to pursue an acting career would be to believe that it is possible.
“I believe once you can cement that thinking into your core being, anything is possible. Secondly, find agencies or schools that can get in contact with you to jump-start your career. Invest in being educated and trained in this field then there is no way you can fail,” Howard concluded.
