Singing their heart out
WESTBURY– Black Yoghurt is a talented boy band that performs cover songs from popular artists.
Black Yoghurt is a cover band that was established and is managed by Owen Lonzar who has been a choreographer and director for 29 years.
The talented group consists of Sean McGrath, Donovan Yard and Itumeleng Tshabane, who are working hard to make a mark in the entertainment industry.
Westbury resident, Yard said he has been singing since he was a child and studied musical theatre at Tshwane University of Technology, where he was technically trained.
“I got the opportunity to travel to Turkey with Lonzar in 2015 where he performed in various musical productions such as 80’s Mania, Legends of Rock and Viva Extravaganza. I enjoy having the freedom to be myself in my group and the way we blend our diverse traits works. Getting to know each other and what we all have to offer has been a great experience so far,” said Yard.
McGrath, who is a Linden resident said that being part of the group has been an awesome experience and they have blended well throughout the process. They perform cover songs, classical and urban pop music from artists like Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeren and Sam Smith.
Lonzar, the brains behind the group, said he chose the musicians because they are so different from one another, yet their voices blend really well.
“Sean is the boy-next-door, Itumeleng is always laughing and Donovan is the crazy, out-there guy in the group. I have my work cut out with three such different personalities but they are great, their onstage energy and magic are both infectious and entertaining. They are all soloists in their own right, who have distinctive singing styles but can blend those styles to create a beautiful sound,” said Lonzar.
He added the group performs mostly for corporate audiences and appeals to everyone. He added that he is planning a performance at Piza e Vino in mid-November.
