Hosted with style
AUCKLAND PARK – The Maria van Riebeeck Club members attend their annual Christmas party at the Johannesburg Country Club.
The Maria van Riebeeck Club is an organisation that is dedicated to raising funds to help people in the community.
The club hosted their annual Christmas party at the Johannesburg Country Club where they meet once a month.
Guest speaker, Pastor Liesl Krause-Clair spoke about the significance of Christmas.
Advisory committee member of the club Anneliese Pletlenbacher said the club had 100 members and was established 75 years ago.

“Our aim is to collect money for disadvantaged kids around schools in Johannesburg. Through the Help the Child Fund we also buy school uniforms for disadvantaged children. We believe there are so many children in need and we want to fit in by providing them with school uniforms. When every child looks the same, no one will now that they are disadvantaged,” explained Pletlenbacher.
She added that the club also arranged various fundraisers such as golf days, a dinner-dance once a year and also hosted an auction that was open to the public.
The club’s student study trust organiser, Rita Naudé said the trust offered a bursary to a student where money is raised and put into the Murray Hofmeyer Trust which allocates the funds.
“Every year we host different concerts, the last concert we hosted was at Northwoods where we raised R50 000. I believe it’s important to give back because I’ve always had a passion for giving back and doing good for others,” said Naudé.
Pletlenbacher encourages residents who would like to attend the fundraisers to contact her.
