Home-grown meets international at Marks Park
EMMARENTIA – Marks Park draws music lovers to its fields once again.
For the second weekend in a row Marks Park was turned into a music venue to be reckoned with.
On 23 July Mafikizolo performed at the stadium and a week later on 29 July music lovers swarmed Marks Park to watch three top local bands as well as one international one.
The line-up included The Graeme Watkins Project, Freshly Ground, Prime Circle and Australian band Midnight Oil.
Midnight Oil’s performance was part of their current sold out Great Circle world tour. Their show at Marks Park was also their only South African show.
A large section of the stadium was cordoned off to make room for hoards of guests as well as food trucks from far and wide. Families attended the concert with camping chairs and picnic blankets alike.
The Watkins Project was the concert’s opening act and an all time South African favourite band Freshly Ground followed before Prime Circle’s performance and later the boys from Australia took to the stage.
During the Freshly Ground performance Lorraine Handel, the band’s number one, and more mature fans were seen standing front and centre to dance to their music.
“Oh, they are my absolute favourite band. My all-time favourite. I just love their music,” Handel said.
