New exciting show for theatre lovers
PARKTOWN – This story will warm your heart during the cold winter school holidays.
The National Children’s Theatre invites performing arts fans to attend their latest production The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
The original musical adaptation of the well-known and well-loved classic Robert Browning poem is currently underway in Parktown. According to Sydwell Koopedi, media liaison officer at the National Children’s Theatre, this not-to-be-missed show will run until 15 July.

According to Koopedi, the musical tells the story of an arrogant politician, Mr Mayor, who doesn’t really care about his town and the hard-working people who live and work there. “He is a greedy man who earns a ridiculously high salary which he spends on overseas trips, golfing and beautiful things.
“He is a tyrant but meets his match when, in desperation, he hires a strange piper to rid the town of rats. Unfortunately for him, he doesn’t want to pay the piper for his services. See the show and find out how the piper retaliates.”
He described the play as skilfully adapted for the stage by Renos Nicos Spanoudes and Sarah Barlin and added that this fantastic, humorous adventure will transport you into a world of song and dance, mystery and make-believe, love and laughter. “It’s a story that will warm your heart during the cold winter school holidays. However, the story is not all froth and bubble – there are a few good lessons to be learned.”
The talented and versatile cast includes Sibusiso Nhlapo Ferguson, Gamelihle Bovana, Danny Meaker, Kopano Tshabalala Gugu Dhlamini and children from National Children’s Theatre workshops. The creative team includes Stan Knights (sets), Sarah Roberts (costumes), Dale Scheepers (musical director), Sibusiso Nhlapo (choreography) and Jane Gosnell (lighting).
With the winter holidays already here, give your children the chance to connect with participatory theatre at its best – it’s an experience to be enjoyed by the whole family.
