Yard sale the Brixton way

BRIXTON – The community was treated to Brixton Yard Sale that ticked everyone's boxes for goods to purchase.

It was a day of delighting in some delectable treats on 1 May when the community attended the Brixton Yard Sale.

The second of its kind this year, this event was organised by Ashely Heron. As Sophia Welz, a member of the Brixton Community Forum so boldly put it, Brixton is known for its friendly neighbours and excellent community events. “The combination of these two things is the Brixton community yard sale,” she said.

On the day, residents set up outside their houses and sold everything from delicious food to vintage handbags and tools.

“As usual the Waste Not Want Not kids art project didn’t disappoint, Tamzyn Botha from Shade runs art workshops for Brixton children every Saturday.” She added that community members also chipped in to support the project by volunteering to help on workshop days or cooking lunch.

Welz said the children participated in this Brixton community day by painting a beautiful mural with top SA artist Isaac Zavale.
