Safa Gauteng suspends province’s Sasol Women’s League

JOBURG – Safa suspends the Gauteng Sasol Women’s League tournament following the rising Covid-19 numbers in the province.

Rising Covid-19 cases in Gauteng have compelled the South African Football Association (Safa) Gauteng to temporarily suspend the province’s Sasol Women’s League tournament.

The suspension was made in a communique to participating clubs by Safa Gauteng’s provincial executive officer Victor Raletjena on June 18, who said the move comes behind the unprecedentedly rising of Covid-19 cases in the province.

“We have decided to take this decision to suspend the Gauteng Sasol Women’s League because the Gauteng province is the hardest hit in this current third wave of the pandemic,” Raletjena said.

He advised those clubs that will continue training with their teams with a view to keep fit should the suspension be rescinded when the Covid-19 cases are under control, to always strictly observe and comply with the Covid-19 safety protocols as provided for by the mother body.
