A biopic in celebration of an extraordinary life and musical legacy

Whitney Houston was a modern-day diva who took the world by storm – but tragedy was never far away.

Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody tracks Whitney’s career from her early days in a church choir and her international breakthrough as a crossover artist, performing for newly inaugurated South African president Nelson Mandela and releasing hit after award-winning hit at the pinnacle of her success.

However, Whitney’s seemingly golden life was always clouded by her tumultuous relationships with her overbearing father and her wayward husband, Bobby Brown. Turning to drugs for solace, her mental and physical decline led to her untimely passing in 2012 – and this biopic tracks both the triumphs and the tears, sketching a compelling portrait of the extraordinary life behind the legendary voice.

Described as a joyous, heartbreaking celebration of one of the greatest R&B vocalists of our time, the film stars BAFTA-winning actress Naomi Ackie (The End of the F***ing World) as the gifted but ill-fated Grammy-winning star.

The movie also stars Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Clive Davis, the record producer who transformed Whitney into one of the best-selling female artists of all time.

If you missed it while it was on circuit, snuggle up as the cold weather sets in and relive Whitney’s journey from obscurity to superstardom from the comfort of your couch, courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Catch Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, screening on DStv Box Office from May 5.
