Democratic Alliance takes a stand against abuse
After a shocking video did the rounds on social media, showing a patient being abused in hospital
The Democratic Alliance (DA) held a peaceful protest at the intersection of Malcolm and Hospital Road this morning (October 4).
Holding placards bearing a variety of slogans, the DA was protesting against the abuse of SA citizens’ rights.
This comes after a video did the rounds on social media, allegedly showing security guards assaulting a patient at Ladysmith Regional (Provincial) Hospital.

“The DA is horrified by the brutality of these security guards, apparently at Ladysmith Provincial Hospital, displayed in a video circulating on social media. This is reminiscent of the brutality of the apartheid regime and has no place at all in our South African constitutional democracy. The DA calls on the hospital manager to take immediate and robust action against the responsible security guards, as well as ensure that such treatment of patients never again occurs,” said Alf Lees MP.
