Former Newcastle Mayor, Dr Nthutuko Mahlaba, is reportedly in a critical condition after being struck by a vehicle earlier this morning (July 4).

According to an official at the scene. who is not authorised to speak to the media, Mahlaba was on his morning jog along Allen Street, near ArcelorMittal, when the incident occurred.

Critical but stable

Emergency services responded swiftly, stabilising him at the scene before transporting him to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
