Former mayor Dr Nthutuko Mahlaba dies after tragic accident

The Newcastle Advertiser has learnt that former Newcastle Mayor, Dr Nthutuko Mahlaba, has sadly passed away after being struck by a vehicle while on his morning jog earlier today.

According to an official source, who is not authorised to speak to the media, as well as a close family friend, Dr Mahlaba succumbed to his injuries while undergoing emergency surgery, despite the efforts of medical personnel to save his life.
DA Amajuba Constituency extends condolences
Dr Imran Keeka, MPL and DA Amajuba Constituency Head, has released a statement on behalf of the Democratic Alliance in the Amajuba Constituency, conveying its sincere condolences to the family, loved ones, friends, colleagues and political party of the late Dr Nthutuko N.G. Mahlaba.
“Honourable Mahlaba served as Mayor of the Newcastle Municipality during the previous municipal term and, more recently, as Chairperson of Committees in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature as part of our Government of Provincial Unity,” said Keeka.
He added that, although they did not always share the same views, their engagements were consistently marked by mutual respect, cordiality and professionalism.
“He will be remembered as an approachable, humble and caring leader who served the people with commitment.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all who mourn his passing. We sincerely hope that his family, friends, colleagues and all those who knew him will draw strength, comfort and solace from their faith during this profoundly difficult time.”
