Head-on collision claims six lives

A head-on collision claimed the lives of six people earlier this afternoon.

Six people have tragically lost their lives following a head-on collision on the R34 towards Memel, approximately 10km outside Newcastle.

According to an official at the scene, who is not authorised to speak to the media, one of the vehicles involved was engulfed in flames.

One person in critical condition

Emergency services responded swiftly and attempted to assist the victims.

Sadly, six people were declared dead at the scene, while one critically injured patient was transported to hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Emergency personnel remain on the scene as recovery operations continue.

The exact cause of the collision is still unknown and will be the subject of further police investigation.

The R34 has been temporarily closed, and motorists are urged to make use of alternative routes for the next few hours.
