Hanuman Jayanthi is the celebration of the appearance or birth of Sri Hanuman, who is known to be the most loyal and devoted servant (das) of Lord Sri Ram.

Devotees believe Sri Hanuman represents strength and courage, and is the remover of all obstacles.

Newcastle devotees celebrated Hanuman Jayanthi at Newcastle’s International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon), on Thursday, April 21.

Guests were encouraged to bring offerings of flowers, milk, fruits or dried nuts as offerings to the celebration, which started on Thursday morning with a special abisheka for the deity of Hanuman, followed by the adornment of Hanuman with butter and dried fruits. A flower garland was also offered to him in order to receive his blessings.

Iskcon Newcastle invited the community to not only celebrate Hanuman Jayanthi, but also to understand how people could learn from Sri Hanuman to be a devoted servant of the Lord.

Madhu Govinda (das) thanked all devotees on behalf of Iskcon for joining in the celebration.
