GALLERY: Rainbow Run attracts colourful crowds
The event was fun-filled as Newcastle Mall handed out coloured powder, which enabled the runners to turn the walk into a colourful spectacle.
There is more to public holidays than sleeping in, as was shown at the Newcastle Mall’s annual 8km Rainbow Run.
While scores of fitness enthusiasts donned their running shoes to test their endurance, the event also saw families and friends taking the opportunity to enjoy the fresh morning air.
The event was fun-filled as Newcastle Mall handed out coloured powder, which enabled the runners to turn the walk into a colourful spectacle.
In the men’s division, Loyd Masondo took first place, followed by Nkosinathi Sibiya and Sanele Masondo in second and third places respectively.
Sister Gamede clinched the win in the women’s division. In second place was Gugu Dlamini, followed closely by Lindokuhle Gabele in third position.
Adding to the day’s festivities, Newcastle Mall also hosted a market day where shoppers could peruse plush toys, sweets and jewellery.
Newcastle Mall’s Marketing Manager, Beaulah Rajkumar said the event had grown steadily over the years.
“This is the fifth year the Mall has hosted the Rainbow Run and it has grown a lot. In fact, this was the best one to date. We have to thank all the runners for coming back every year, as without them, it would not have been possible.”
Rajkumar also thanked event’s sponsors for constantly the event each year.
