Nofta honours its senior residents

Gani reiterated the purpose of the day was to pay homage to the aged and acknowledge their role in their respective communities.

Every year, the Newcastle Organisation for the Aged (Nofta) celebrates its Week of the Aged.

This year was nothing short of spectacular, if the attendance at the event was anything to go by.

The Nofta Service Hall was filled to capacity with senior citizens and members of the public, dressed to the nines.

Nofta chairman, Rajesh Ramdaw officially welcomed guests and applauded all sponsors and volunteers for their contribution in making the event a success.

He personally expressed his gratitude towards Asim Gani, a principal sponsor of Nofta’s Week of the Aged for the last five years.

Gani, who is a businessman from Cape Town, was secured as a sponsor by Nofta’s secretary, Bully Singh through a friendship which has endured for many years.

He made a special trip to Newcastle on Saturday to witness the worthy event.

Gani reiterated the purpose of the day was to pay homage to the aged and acknowledge their role in their respective communities.

The guest speaker for the evening was Doctor Nerissa Lazarus from Durban, who delivered a motivational message to senior citizens.

Guests were treated to an exquisite three course meal as they celebrated this day with the aged.
